Provisional Voting Explained

A Provisional Voter is a voter whose registration status must be verified before his/her ballot can be counted.  Some reasons a voter might be considered provisional would include:

  • The voter’s name is not in the voter roster.
  • The voter had a name or address change.
  • The voter who may have already voted (early voter or vote-by-mail).
  • The voter submitted a conditional voter registration and ballot after the close of registration.

A provisional voter must vote a Provisional Ballot.  After the Election the Registrar of Voter’s office will determine the registration status of the voter and count or not count the provisional ballot.
