Candidate Filing Open

Candidate filing opened on February 10th and will close on March 7th. To date we have had 35 candidates indicate they may run for one of 68 offices. As of today two have actually completed the filing process.

Seasonal Employees on Board

Today our employee ranks begin to expand as seasonal employees join the Registrar of Voters. These employees begin with a detailed 3-day orientation to the election process.

Central Committees Off Primary Ballot

Law changes cycle of elections
In 2012 Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 1272, which went into effect on January 1, 2013. The new law deletes the requirement that members of a county central committee be elected at every statewide direct primary election and instead permits those members to be elected at every presidential primary election.

Ensuring Polling Places Are ADA Accessible

In 2008 we embarked on an aggressive program to re-survey our polling places to ensure ADA compliance. Since that time we have surveyed 1,526 polling places and made modifications to increase accessibility. Using a combination of federal and state grants we have been able to bring properties (once considered unusable) into temporary compliance on Election Day. In 2013 we transitioned our field surveys into a digital platform.
