Registrar of Voters Backgrounder

Poll Worker Program

The Registrar of Voters Poll Worker Program is your opportunity to contribute to the Orange County community in a meaningful way.

Thousands of volunteers from all over the county are needed to serve as Poll Workers on Election Day.

Poll Workers are responsible for all polling place operations, including setting up equipment and supplies, assisting and processing voters, and assisting in the  closing procedures.

Especially needed are individuals who are bilingual in Chinese, Korean, Spanish or Vietnamese.

By volunteering, you provide a valuable community service and make a priceless contribution to the American electoral process.

There are a few critical qualifications one must meet in order to volunteer on Election Day:

  • You must be a registered voter in California and a citizen of the United States.
  • You must be 18 years of age. Student Poll Workers must be at least 16.
  • You may not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction.

In addition to contributing to the democratic process, poll workers receive a stipend of at least $75 for their time and effort. Stipends vary depending on position.

Volunteer hours are from 6:00 a.m. until all closing procedures are complete at approximately 9:30 p.m.
