Did you know that since 2000, the Presidential Primary Election in California has been held in February once, March three times, and June two times? The State Legislature last updated the election calendar in 2020, setting the Presidential Primary Elections for March and the Gubernatorial Primary Elections for June. | No Party Preference Voting If you did not provide a political party preference when you registered to vote, you are a No Party Preference voter. And, you must let us know if you want to vote to nominate one of the political party’s candidates for the office of President of the United States during the Primary Election. If you do not request a party ballot, you will receive a nonpartisan ballot in the mail or at a Vote Center that will not have the names of presidential candidates listed on it. The good news is that some parties allow you to “crossover” and request a ballot with the names of their presidential candidates on it. They are the American Independent Party, Democratic Party, and Libertarian Party. The other three qualified parties chose in October not to allow No Party Preference voters to vote their party’s ballots. To receive a ballot for the Green Party, Peace and Freedom Party, or Republican Party, you must re-register to vote as a member of one of those parties. | Voting Myths and Misconceptions: Ballot Drop Boxes Myth: If I put my ballot in a Ballot Drop Box, someone could remove the drop box and steal my ballot. Truth: Ballot Drop Boxes are designed with reinforced steel walls, weigh more than 1,000 pounds, and are bolted directly into to the ground at all locations. Mail slots offer just enough room to drop in your ballot, preventing any other items from being placed in the drop box. Each box is individually keyed. Only teams of two election workers can collect the voted ballots from the drop boxes, following strict chain of custody procedures. And, the Registrar of Voters tracks the GPS location of ballot collection teams at all times they are completing their routes. Find a Ballot Drop Box near you. |

| Election integrity and security Election security is a top priority for the Orange County Registrar of Voters. Registered voters have four safe and secure options to return their ballots this election season. You can send your Vote-By-Mail ballot using the U.S. Postal Service, place it in one of the more than 120 secure drop boxes located throughout the county, bring it to a Vote Center or vote in-person at a Vote Center. | Important Dates for the 2024 Presidential Primary Election The Orange County Registrar of Voters has created an Election Calendar to help you keep track of important deadlines for the 2024 Presidential Primary Election, including: Thursday, January 25: Voter Information Guides begin to be delivered to the U.S. Postal Service Monday, February 5: Mail Ballots Delivered to U.S. Post Office / Early Voting Begins / Drop Boxes Open Monday, February 5: All Ballot Drop Boxes are Open for Ballot Drop-offs Tuesday, February 20: Last Day to Register to Vote Saturday, February 24: SELECT Vote Centers Open Across the County / Vote In-Person Saturday, March 2: All Vote Centers Open (more than 180 total sites) / Vote In-Person Tuesday, March 5: Voting Ends at 8 p.m. You can access the calendar here.
