ELECCIÓN GENERAL PRESIDENCIAL, 3 DE NOVIEMBRE DE 2020

 

This calendar is for County use only. All proponents should seek their own legal advice.  Dates with the (*) asterisk indicate those necessary to place a countywide initiative measure on the November 3, 2020 Presidential General Election ballot. All section references are to the California Elections Code.

 

Day Notice of Intent is Filed 

Request for Ballot Title and Summary, Notice of Intention, text of proposed measure and $200 refundable deposit filed with the Registrar of Voters. Registrar of Voters forwards text of proposed initiative to County Counsel for preparation of Ballot Title and Summary. § 9103, § 9105(a) 

Within 15 Days after Measure Filed 

Ballot Title and Summary of initiative received from County Counsel. § 9105(a) 

Day Registrar of Voters Receives Ballot Title 

Registrar of Voters forwards Ballot Title and Summary of initiative to proponents. § 9105(b)

The clock begins on the 180-day period for the proponents to circulate the petition as soon as they receive the Ballot Title and Summary of the initiative from the Registrar of Voters. NOTE: During this 180-day period and prior to circulation, proponents must publish the Notice of Intention and County Counsel’s Ballot Title and Summary in a newspaper of general circulation published in the county. Proof of publication must be provided to the Registrar of Voters prior to circulation. October 31st is the last day for the 180-day period to begin if proponents wish to have the entire 180-day period for publication of Notice of Intention/County Counsel’s Ballot Title and Summary and for circulation of the petition.

Anticipated date of Registrar of Voters’ submission of certification of sufficiency of an initiative petition to Board of Supervisors (BOS). Options for Board of Supervisors at that meeting include: 

  • Order submission of the measure to the voters at the 

November 3, 2020 Presidential General Election. 

  • The reports shall be presented to the Board of Supervisors within the time prescribed by the Board, but no later than July 23, 2020, 30 days after certification.

August 17, 2020, 5:00 p.m. All documents that will be subject to public review will be posted on the Registrar of Voters’ website and be available at the Registrar of Voters’ office on Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Text, Direct Arguments, Impartial Analysis and Tax Rate Statement are subject to legal action during this public review period. § 9190
