Santa Ana, CA - January 2008 - Registered
voters that have declined to state a party affiliation (DTS) have
ballot options available to them.
Although DTS voters are accustomed to having ballot options
in primary elections, fewer options are available for February 5th
than in prior elections.
DTS voters may
vote a non-partisan ballot that contains only state propositions
and local measures and contests. As an option they may also choose
to vote a Democratic Party ballot or an American Independent Party
ballot. No other party ballot will be available to DTS voters,
including Republican Party ballots.
“We want to
make Decline to State voters aware of their ballot options prior
to requesting their ballot,” said Neal Kelley, Registrar of
Voters. “We want to reduce any confusion prior to the voters
arriving at the polls,” he continued.
Permanent
Vote-by-Mail voters were sent a postcard advising them of their
ballot choices in November of 2007.
Decline to State voters that wish to vote in a party
primary in which the party is not offering their ballots to DTS
voters may change their registration. The deadline to re-register
is January 22, 2008.
The Registrar of
Voters office asks that you contact the political parties
regarding party policy decisions to allow or disallow ballot
options to DTS voters.
