» Just a Few Hours Left Until Super Tuesday              I am very honored to have each and everyone of you work the polls tomorrow as Orange County takes the national stage.  There is a lot of information in training but the majority of what you will do tomorrow relies on common sense, good voter service and a calm approach during peak voting times.  Read this newsletter for important reminders and above all enjoy yourselves tomorrow.  Thank you for your service.

» Accounting for Paper Ballots - Not to Worry
Every poll site has received a different number of paper ballots based on registration (which is why you will not see a ballot receipt).  Due to the many combinations of parties and languages we do not expect poll workers to count all of the unused paper ballots. We keep detailed records of the total number of paper ballots sent to each poll site.  So you only need to make sure your count of total voted paper ballots at the end of the night is accurate and record it on the ballot statement.

» Chain of Custody Requirements Simplified

Although the addition of the Secretary of State’s chain-of-custody documents and verification of seals may seem daunting, it really is not much different than what you have done in the past. Inspectors have always signed for the equipment and checking the seals throughout the day won't take much time. As a reminder, two poll workers will verify the visible seals. They may remove the blue seals when required. The red seals may NOT be removed.

» Remember Paper Ballots Are an Option
Just a friendly reminder that voters have their choice of voting on the eSlate or voting on a paper ballot.  Each poll site was sent a large quantity of paper ballots (10 times the amount that was sent in the past).  So you should not run out of paper ballots.  Remember however that if you are running low you should notify the poll worker help desk or your coordinator immediately.

» Removable JBC Sticker New for 2008                     A removable sticker has been placed on the face of the JBC. This is to remind you of the importance of checking the power and ensuring the eSlates are properly daisy-chained. If you don’t have power the systems may go down in the middle of the day. Proper daisy-chain linkage is also crucial. Once you verify these items remove the sticker and proceed with opening the polls.
