New for the Presidential!  You will receive a sign with your eSlate caddy that you can set up if lines start to form.  It will instruct voters to be prepared; to not wait in line if they have a vote-by-mail ballot to drop off and thanks them for their patience.

Shown above is your new poll worker pin for the Presidential Election.  Every poll worker working in November will receive this commemorative pin.

» Presidential Election Countdown                     Based on your feedback, our training team has made a concerted effort to simplify the instruction for poll worker training. We understand that much of the content covered in a 3-hour class may seem overwhelming.  Keep in mind though that processing a voter is “as easy as 1-2-3”: 1.) The voter signs in. 2.) The voter verifies his/her address. 3.) The voter receives a ballot and votes.

We want you to remember that is primarily what you will do on Election Day, so don’t be intimidated.

» You Asked and We Listened

Our training DVD (first introduced in February this year) now features a special section reviewing the process of provisional voting.  This new DVD section is an excellent resource to compliment what you will learn in training about provisional voters. On Election Day, you can also turn to the “What to Do If Guide", poll worker training manual and the multi-colored procedural cards for step-by-step instructions.

»Secretary of State Re-Certification for Use of Hart Voting System
Following the "Top-to-Bottom" voting system review by the Secretary of State our voting system was re-certified subject to these terms.
»Calendar for Presidential General Election
The General Election will be taking place on November 4, 2008.  Much of our planning centers around this election calendar which highlights major milestones.
»Candidate Log for November General Election
With nearly 500 individuals on November's ballot following each contest can be difficult.  This list notes each candidate and their ballot designation for each contest.
»City and County Measure Information
November's ballot will have 13 city measures and 1 County measure.  This details each measure and provides voters information and background.
» Prepare For Lines and Line Management

Every poll worker team serving in November should prepare a strategy for managing long lines at the polls. We want Inspectors and Clerks to play an active role in communicating with voters - informing them about expected wait times and advising them to view and mark their sample ballots before entering the booth.  Look for training on this during your poll worker training class.

» Dividers Added to Poll Site Supply Box                 To better organize the items in your supply box, we have added cardboard dividers, so that the contents inside remain neat and orderly. Poll workers can throw away the dividers after unpacking the supplies on Election Day morning. Most importantly, remember to remove the dividers inside before using the empty box as a ballot box.

» Poll Worker Practice Sessions Coming Up Soon Since their debut in February 2008, Poll Worker Practice events have played a key role in preparing poll workers for upcoming elections. The innovative format, which features “mock polling places”, allows volunteers to enhance what they’ve learned from training by practicing every aspect of their Election Day duties several days before the election.  Look for upcoming dates and times at your training class.
