Reducing
Poll Site Signs From 7 to 1
In a continuing
effort to make poll site operation more efficient and
easier for poll workers we have been working to combine
poll site signage. Currently there are 7 signs
(required by statute) that must be displayed in the poll
sites. For the first time poll workers will be
able to unfold and hang just one sign, which is
easy-to-read for voters and contains all of the required
information.

Testing Continues
on Additional Vote-by-Mail Ballot Mailing System
Shown at right the Registrar of Voters office takes
delivery of our second Pitney Bowes election mailing
system recently. This will double our outbound
capacity of ballots and provide redundancy in our
vote-by-mail process. We will be the first county
in the country to utilize two systems due to increased
demand. We are also changing our inbound sorting
of vote-by-mail ballots to sort by cities as well as zip
codes.

» Last
Minute Indian Gaming Petitions Could Add Additional
Items to February Ballot
The California
Constitution allows referendum to qualify up to 31 days
prior to an election. Counties statewide will be
on a tight printing schedule deadline should the Indian
Gaming referendum, which was filed mid-October, qualify
for the ballot. We have received 65,000 signatures
and are in the final stages of signature checking.
They will be certified and sent to the Secretary of
State upon completion.
