Can a candidate for this office collect signatures from voters to offset the filing fee?
Yes.
-A candidate may submit the appropriate number of signatures to cover all or any portion of the filing fee in order to run for office.
-Official forms for obtaining signatures in lieu of filing fee can be obtained only from the Registrar of Voters’ office beginning September 10, 2009.
-Signatures in lieu filing deadline will depend on when the election is called.

If the candidate cannot come to the Registrar of Voters to obtain the in lieu of filing fee petition form, he/she may have another person do so for him/her.

Any registered voter may sign an in lieu of filing fee petition for any candidate for whom he/she is eligible to vote.

Signatures in lieu of the filing fee are counted toward the number of signatures required on nomination papers, provided that the signers are of the same political affiliation as the candidate.

The last day to file supplemental signatures in lieu for deficient signatures will depend on when the election is called.
