Orange County Voting Systems Test Proves Accuracy
SANTA ANA – November 3, 2006 – Accuracy testing of Orange County’s voting system was completed today for the November 7, 2006 General Election and the systems proved, once again, to be 100% accurate. Law requires the test, known as the Logic and Accuracy test, to be performed prior to each election.
Logic and Accuracy tests include proofing the programming of the ballot, each ballot style and each contest position on the ballot.
“Our eSlate voting system continues to prove that it is a safe, accurate voting system,” said Neal Kelley, Registrar of Voters. “The voters of Orange County can continue to count on their voting system to perform well and record their votes correctly.”
In addition to the Logic and Accuracy test the County will perform the required 1% manual recount during the canvassing process using the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail. Also, the Secretary of State’s office will be performing Parallel Monitoring in Orange County on Election Day. The Secretary’s staff has randomly selected some of Orange County’s systems that will be tested to ensure they are recording votes properly.
The Hart InterCivic eSlate has proved to be 100% accurate in tests performed each election. The eSlate was first used in the 2004 election cycle.
