Urgent Reminder that Absentee Voters Apply Proper Postage to Absentee Ballots
SANTA ANA, CA – October 31, 2006; The Orange County Registrar of Voters would like to remind absentee voters (Vote-by-mail) to apply the proper postage to their absentee ballots prior to mailing them. Some ballots in Orange County are large enough to require more than $.39 postage.
“We want to reiterate the importance of placing the proper postage on your absentee ballot when returning it,” said Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley. “It is the best way to ensure that it is returned to us in a timely manner,” he continued.
However, we have an agreement with the Postal Service that if insufficient postage is inadvertently applied to absentee ballots that are left in mail boxes they will still be forwarded to the Registrar of Voters office.
State and Federal law requires that the Registrar of Voters must receive all ballots by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 7, 2006. Ballots received late will not be counted. Postmarks will not be taken into account to determine eligibility of the ballot.
For these reasons it is critical that voters affix adequate postage to their absentee ballots.
