California Secretary of State Bruce McPherson to Help Launch Registrar of Voters New Website

Will also promote Voter Registration and Kick-off Early Voting

SANTA ANA, CA – October 18, 2006 - The Registrar of Voters will launch their completely transformed website on October 20th at a large outdoor event on the campus of the University of California, Irvine. Secretary of State Bruce McPherson will join Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley in formally launching the updated website www.ocvote.com.

The Registrar of Voters’ mobile polling place with its eye catching new design will provide the backdrop for the event. The kickoff, designed to encourage students to register to vote and to work as poll workers on Election Day, will begin at 11:30 a.m. Early Voting will also begin at UCI and locations throughout the county.

The World Famous KROQ street team will be present following the remarks to hand out prizes and promote the event.

The new website will be more accessible to voters. The site will feature an enhanced reporting system. The system will also be an interactive guide to current elected officials, detailed precinct reporting and regular RSS news feeds and much more.

“Our goal is to provide easy access to election information for our voters,” said Neal Kelley, Registrar of Voters.” The new website is user friendly and packed with useful and easily accessible information. We are very excited,” continued Kelley.

There will be computers available on-site for people to navigate the new site. A comments section will be available on the site as well.

In a related event, to support efforts at registering students, at 1 p.m., Robert Dynes, President of the University of California, will join members of the Associated Students of the University of California, Irvine at UCI’s Anteater Plaza.
